Written by the late Adla M. Hannon and illustrated by her surviving son Mark Hannon, Christmas in Kangaroo Land is not your run-of-the-mill Christmas story. Santa Claus’ sleigh is struck by a meteorite while delivering gifts to the good people and animals of Australia. None other than the Kangaroos of Australia come to Santa’s rescue and save Christmas! Mommy kangaroos, “put their kids to bed and fill their pouches with toys instead” in an effort to save this precious holiday.
The timeless illustrations that support the story are beautiful. Mark Hannon blends the seriousness of Norman Rockwell and the playfulness of a children’s story. Accompanying the illustrations and text is a song authored and written by Adla Hannon herself. Adla has four albums published by Rebekah M. Music on ACM Records. Her music is a reflection of her warm and receptive personality in the style of 1940’s love ballads to current day. Adla’s grandchildren refer to her as, “a really cool lady,” and she had hoped that her Christmas tale would fill the hearts of future generations with the same love of classic holidays.
